COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Advanced merchandise mathematics. Apply six-month merchandise plan and OTB formulas through a simulated buying experience including store planning, merchandising and marketing.
Course Overview
This advanced course is meant to bridge the gap between the principles of retail buying and mathematical formulas and concepts. Students will be assigned to one of several “buying teams” in an effort to facilitate the exchange of information and reinforce critical thinking. Each student must be an active, “participating” member with their assigned team. Team participation will be part of the overall grading criteria.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After successful completion of this course a student should be able to do the following:
1. Assess stock activity
2. Develop and implement product assortments, budgets, and distributions strategies.
3. Calculate and assign product markup based on direct and indirect costs to achieve profitability.
4. Establish and evaluate reductions, terms and dating, and net costs
5. Analyze statistical reports and computer operations.
