COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Prerequisite: MFD 301 with grade of C or better; and General Education mathematics requirement. Basic retail and buying formulas are examined for the purpose of understanding six-month merchandising plans and open-to-buy calculations. Case studies include vender relations and negotiation strategies. 3(3-0) F
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After successful completion of this course a student should be able to do the following:
a) examine current fashion industry principles and practices by applying the case study
method of analysis.
b) develop critical thinking and communication skills by constructing and defending alternative solutions to actual business challenges through case development, and computer applications.
c) explore moral and ethical issues that face businesses today.
d) strengthen communication skills through class presentations and written assignments.
e) understand merchandising calculations used in merchandise, to include assortment planning, six-month budgeting, and open-to-buy preparation in merchandising.
f) learn to work effectively as part of a team through group projects.
